July brought U.S. Engineering Team Members together to give back to their communities and put mechanical craftsmanship on display. Below we highlight philanthropic efforts and document two projects from the past few months, a high school in Colorado and a detention center in Missouri.

Intern Philanthropy Spans Regions
This summer, USE interns have put philanthropy into action across the country, finding ways to contribute to the communities where they live and work.
In Alabama, the Montgomery U.S. Engineering Innovations interns volunteered with the Heart of Alabama Food Bank, supporting the organization’s effort to provide 11,000 meals to individuals and families across the state. In the Midwest, interns in Kansas City closed out their Veterans Community Project fundraiser with a carnival featuring a dunk tank where CEO Tyler Nottberg and all nine Midwest interns got dunked.
In our Rocky Mountain region, interns hosted a pancake breakfast at our Westminster office to support the Adams Five Star Education Foundation, which helps open doors for K-12 students in the Adams 12 school district.

Intern Job Walk: Rocky Vista High School
Thank you to our Operations and Field Team members for opening the doors at Rocky Vista High School in Commerce City, Colorado, giving our Rocky Mountain region interns a firsthand look at how mechanical systems come together on a major project.
The school will be a multi-story facility built for up to 1,500 students, featuring an auditorium, dual gyms, and CTE workshops. Below grade, our Field Team is installing a crawlspace drainage system. Above, hydronic heating and DX cooling systems will condition the air.

Project Spotlight: Jackson County Detention Center
We shared a look at the Jackson County Detention Center project on social media this month, highlighting the scale of work behind it. Preconstruction, piping, plumbing, and sheet metal were all delivered under one scope.

Thought Leadership: The Building is the First Design Input
We recently shared a new article from Andy Casseday, Executive Project Manager with USE Construction, exploring why the building itself deserves treatment as a design input rather than only a container for mechanical systems.
Using Construction’s work on a data center campus as an example, a project with two buildings and two distinct structural identities, mass timber and pre-engineered metal, Andy walks through how understanding a building’s load limits, flexibility, and environment leads to design decisions that eliminate costly surprises.
