Service President Clay Daniels Completes 40-mile Ruck for reStart

November 15, 2021

U.S. Engineering Service President Clay Daniels marched 40-miles with a 40-lb ruck (plus water) to raise money for reStart Inc in support of the organization’s 40th anniversary. This effort was Clay’s second: in 2020, he walked 20 miles and raised over $15,000 for the organization.

reStart is a non-profit operating in Kansas and Missouri that provides prevention and outreach services, shelter, and transitional and permanent housing for individuals and families. Clay has served on reStart’s board since June 2020, and he is especially passionate about its Veteran Services program, which provides shelter and assistance to at-risk veterans and their families. Prior to joining U.S. Engineering in 2010, Clay served over ten years in the Army and five in Special Forces, including two deployments to Iraq as a Green Beret. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he played varsity football.

Clay started his “ruck” at the reStart headquarters in downtown Kansas City on Thursday, November 11, at 2000 hours (8 pm) and marched a preplanned route around the city, crossing the finish line about 12 hours later Friday morning. Along the way, some U.S. Engineering team members, including CEO Tyler Nottberg, and other friends joined him in support (view photos and videos below). Clay’s ruck has already helped raise over $24,000 in donations.

Clay’s work with reStart is an excellent example of U.S.  Engineering’s Core Value of exhibiting integrity in everything we do. To Clay, giving back to our communities is more than a priority—it’s a responsibility.
