NEWS & INSIGHTS > News > U.S. Engineering August Recap: Innovation, Impact, Expansion
Sep 04, 2025
August was a busy and impactful month across U.S. Engineering. From advancing construction technology on a national stage to giving back in our communities and investing in future leaders, our team continues to demonstrate what it means to Leave a Legacy.
At Stratus Innovate 2025, USEConstruction’s Ryan Frazier and Nick Baughman presented on “Data Processes and Setup.” Their session explored how intentional planning and clean structure can transform data from a byproduct into a powerful driver of efficiency and collaboration.
Drawing on real project examples, they outlined best practices for building scalable workflows, reducing manual effort, and strengthening team coordination. They also showcased U.S. Engineering’s innovative use of WebLEM’s Work Activity Method for productivity tracking, reinforcing our role as a leader in construction technology.
Our summer internship program wrapped up with meaningful final events across both the Midwest and Rocky Mountain regions.
In the Midwest, interns closed out the season with the Ice Bucket Challenge, where Team Members Kevin Sears, Don Curtis, and Shea King stepped up for the plunge. The group also toured the Veterans Community Project (VCP), assembled more than 100 snack packs for veterans, and raised over $1,400 in online donations to support VCP’s broader mission.
Meanwhile, in the Rocky Mountain region, interns organized the GearUp! Fundraiser to support Adams 12 Five Star Schools as students headed into the new school year. Together, they raised a total of $6,353–including $2,325 in monetary donations and $4,028 in PPE donations–far surpassing the $5,000 goal.
Across both regions, our interns closed out the summer by combining fun with service, leaving a tangible impact on the communities we serve.
Big things are on the horizon for U.S. Engineering Metalworks. In Lawrence, Kansas, plans have been submitted for a new 75,000-square-foot production facility across from the company’s existing 150,000-square-foot operation in VenturePark.
The expansion has already gained local media attention and is expected to add 30 new jobs in its first year, with construction targeted to begin in October 2025 and completion anticipated by July 2026.
Meanwhile, a similar expansion is in early planning stages at the Johnstown, Colorado, facility, signaling continued investment and growth across multiple regions.
We also continued building out project-specific stories that highlight the expertise and impact of our teams.
Executive Project Manager Ryan Waage shared insights from the expansion of Colorado State University’s James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital, a project that requires delivering full mechanical systems in a 24/7 facility.
In another feature, Scott Weber detailed how our Flint Hills Service team resolved a critical hotel gas leak in Manhattan, Kansas, completing 59 repairs in just three days ahead of graduation weekend.
From advancing industry conversations to strengthening communities and developing future leaders, August showed the breadth of U.S. Engineering’s impact. As we move into the fall, we’re excited to continue highlighting the people, projects, and programs that define our work and our purpose: creating spaces where people thrive.
