NEWS & INSIGHTS > Featured > How Our Teams Spread Holiday Cheer in a Challenging Year
Dec 30, 2020
Serving our communities has been a part of our mission for over 128 years. As challenging as 2020 has been, our team members stepped up to the plate once again! In the past month, our teams hosted two virtual food drives and provided over 70 children with Christmas gifts.
In our Rocky Mountain region, team members participated in two food drives to support families facing hunger around the holidays.
First, starting on Giving Tuesday, we teamed with The Food Bank Network of the San Luis Valley. This organization supports 15 food banks across the San Luis Valley, an area that experiences national-high rates of poverty. Our team provided virtual monetary donations and ended up raising $2,315, which equates to $1,543 meals!
In addition to supporting The Food Bank Network, our team supported There With Care through an Amazon Food Drive. The items they asked our team to provide went directly to supporting families with children facing a critical illness. There With Care sent the following thank you note to our team:
“This holiday season may look a little different, however, one thing that remains the same is your caring heart!
There With Care has been receiving a number of packages from Amazon each day. What an incredible gift! Thank you for helping us stock the pantry for many There With Care families. These goodies will help provide a sense of relief, a sense of comfort, and a bit of joy over the holidays and into the new year.
Although you are not in the office to see all of the cans of soup and vegetables stacked a mile high, I hope the pictures below give you a glimpse of the items that will be delivered to families. Your amazing team has continued to support There With Care, year after year, and we are forever thankful for your caring hearts. Please extend my gratitude to everyone at U.S. Engineering.
On behalf of all of us at There With Care and the beautiful families we serve, thank you.”
For over 20 years U.S. Engineering’s Midwest region has participated in “Give Back,” an annual toy drive benefiting children in foster care with KVC Behavioral Healthcare. KVC provides support services for children, including education, counseling, medical treatment, food and shelter.
This year, we were still able to participate in this initiative – just with a socially-distanced twist. Team members virtually signed-up to provide gifts for a specific child and were given that child’s wish list. After the shopping was completed, presents were dropped off at the office. Several team members then packed up all of the gifts and delivered them to KVC in time for Christmas Day.
After this year, the total number of children “adopted” by our team since the start of the Give Back Program reached 975!
See the video below for pictures of Give Back:
Between two food drives and Give Back, it’s clear our team views community involvement as more than a priority. It’s our responsibility.
Thank you to our U.S. Engineering team members for helping spread some joy this holiday season!
