U.S. Engineering July Recap: Service, Learning, and Leadership in Action

July 31, 2025

This July, our teams and interns across the Midwest and Rocky Mountain regions came together to serve their communities, explore career paths, and strengthen connections with educators and students. Here’s a look at how we showed up this month.

Midwest Region Highlights

N.I.C.E Externship: Connecting Educators with Career Opportunities in the Trades

We welcomed local educators to our Kansas City headquarters for a hands-on externship aimed at helping them better understand skilled trades careers. They heard from Mike Zykan (VP of Construction Operations – Midwest) and MCAKC’s Stacy Zerr before participating in our “Sync the Specs” Magna-Tile activity. The day wrapped with a tour of our Metalworks facility in Lawrence, Kansas. By bridging the gap between classrooms and career paths, we’re helping educators guide the next generation toward rewarding opportunities in our industry.

Volunteering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace with MCAKC

Our Midwest interns and Team Members joined forces with industry peers through MCAKC’s Young Professionals Committee to build beds for local children in need. Together, volunteers constructed 20 beds in one evening. We’re grateful to our interns for stepping up after hours and showing what the future of our industry looks like: community-focused and purpose-driven.

Freedom Toss for Veterans Community Project

Our Freedom Toss cornhole competition brought fun and fundraising together in support of the Veterans Community Project. Led by our Midwest interns, this event, along with two others, raised over $1,300 and collected more than 1,200 essential items for local veterans. The final match-up was close, but Holdings’ Kryptonite team (Cole Zenisek and Johnny Carlin) took home the trophy.

Rocky Mountain Region Highlights

Adopt-A-Street Cleanup

Our RM interns joined this month’s Westminster Adopt-A-Street cleanup, helping maintain a mile-long stretch of Huron Street. These cleanups are a small but meaningful way we support the places where we work and live.

Supporting Adams 12 Five Star School District’s Student & Family Resource Center

As part of their Gear Up Rocky Mountain initiative, our RM interns dedicated their time to helping the Adams 12 Five Star School District prepare a new space for student and family services. From moving in food and personal care items to assembling furniture, they played a key role in helping the Resource Center get ready to serve the community.

Hosting a Life-Saving Blood Drive

With help from Children’s Colorado Hospital, we hosted a mobile blood drive that brought in 28 generous donors, reaching our goal and helping save lives. Special thanks to the “It’s All Greek to Me” food truck for fueling our team with great food, and to every Team Member who stepped up to make a difference.

As we move into August and reflect on what it means to Leave A Legacy, we’re focusing on the everyday ways our teams make a difference. Whether supporting students, working alongside educators, or giving back to our communities, these efforts all contribute to the long-term strength of our industry and the people connected to it.
