U.S. Engineering

U.S. Engineering is proud to share that the Kansas City International (KCI) Airport New Terminal Project has been awarded Project of the Year by the Design-Build Institute of America – Mid-America Region (DBIA-MAR).

As the design-build mechanical contractor, our teams played a key role in bringing this 1.1 million-square-foot, LEED Gold-certified terminal to life – delivering complex systems that prioritize sustainability, comfort, and long-term performance.

Our Construction teams installed:

  • 25,000 feet of cooling water piping
  • 37,000 feet of heating water piping
  • 49,000 feet of piping for plumbing fixtures

They also helped engineer the Central Heating and Cooling Plant, which includes four 800-ton chillers in an advanced series-counterflow arrangement, as well as plume abatement technology in the cooling towers to optimize energy efficiency.

Prefabrication played a major role in streamlining installation and improving quality. Our Metalworks team prefabricated piping racks used throughout the facility and complete in-wall assemblies for toilet systems, demonstrating the power of coordination, craftsmanship, and innovation.

This award reflects the incredible talent and commitment of our Construction and Metalworks teams. But beyond the numbers and engineering milestones, this project represents something bigger.

At U.S. Engineering, our mission is to Leave a Legacy. The new terminal at KCI will serve millions of travelers for decades, and we’re honored to have played a role.

Thank you to every team member and partner whose expertise and dedication made this project possible!
