Well, it’s still 2020. Many in our communities continue to experience challenges related to the pandemic—and everything else—that lead to extra stress, anxiety and, as a result, depression.
Coming off the heels of World Mental Health Awareness Day, I’m excited about the “Kindness Campaign,” which is being launched Wednesday, October 14, by an organization called Small Changes Big Shifts, in partnership with Lockton.
Studies show that kindness effectively reduces anxiety and depression. As Dr. Michelle Robin of Small Changes Big Shifts explains, “Kindness changes our brain by releasing oxytocin, dopamine, and serotonin – for both the giver and receiver.”
So at U.S. Engineering we’re encouraging our team members to participate in the Kindness Campaign. Each morning of the 31-day event, participants will receive an email containing a quote about kindness and a suggested action they can take to show kindness. Those acts can be performed for neighbors, coworkers, family members and even for yourself.
It’s a challenge that has the potential to positively impact the mental health of thousands of people. In fact, Dr. Robin shares that her organization is on a mission to reach 1 million people through these daily acts of kindness. The Kindness Campaign runs from October 14 through November 13, which is World Kindness Day. Join us in bringing kindness and positivity into our communities this month! To sign up, click here.
