Mar 20, 2020
U.S. Engineering is extremely proud of former intern, Robert Rimpson, who just accepted a position as Sports Producer at FOX4 News Kansas City!
We met Robert in 2014 through Vice President of Project Development, Steve Hancock, who served as a mentor for High Aspirations. In addition to completing an internship at U.S. Engineering, Robert graduated the High Aspirations Program, graduated high school as valedictorian and earned his Associate’s degree. He received a full scholarship to Florida A&M University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. We look forward to following his career in sports producing, beginning with this new position at FOX4 News Kansas City.
Robert always knew he wanted to end up in Kansas City, but as a new graduate, a dream job in your number one location is hard to come by. A few months ago, Robert declined a position in Kentucky in hopes that he would find an opportunity to be a journalist in his hometown. Robert said, “High Aspirations and Steve have been huge supporters of me before I even knew I wanted to be in journalism. Without their belief in me, as well as my other friends and family, I don’t know if I would have had the courage to take a chance at getting a job in Kansas City.” Taking that chance paid off and a few months after declining the Kentucky job, he was hired by FOX4 News Kansas City.
Even though Steve couldn’t convince Robert that mechanical contracting was the route he should take, we’re happy to see Robert following his dreams of being a journalist in his hometown of Kansas City.
Check out this throwback video from 2016 when Robert and Steve were honored at the High Aspirations Mentor’s Challenge dinner.
High Aspirations’ vision is to be a resource in the Kansas City urban core for developing personal and life skills in African-American young men to enable them to live socially productive lives.
