Jan 24, 2020
On December 19 three U.S. Engineering team members—Steve Hancock (VP of Project Development, Midwest), Rob Marriott (Associate VP, Midwest Field Operations) and Wes DeLong (Associate VP of Preconstruction Services)—joined other executives for a discussion about how rapid change is affecting the construction industry. Ingram’s Magazine organized the event, held at McCownGordon headquarters. U.S. Engineering and McCownGordon sponsored the lively conversation, which was co-chaired by Hancock and Steve Levy (Senior Vice President, Construction Operations, McCownGordon).
The topic, “Managing Amid High Volume and Rapid Change,” addressed some of the challenges the industry faces “amid sweeping change in the demographics of the work force (and skill sets of those workers), in technology and tools to improve productivity, and with increasing demands for shorter delivery cycles—all the while pressured by material costs and other factors.”
The two-hour discussion touched on safety, productivity and profitability, among other topics, and offered a clear-eyed view into the construction industry. As Ingram’s notes, this conversation “should yield guidance for anyone considering a career in construction, as well as anyone anticipating a construction project in 2020.”
