University of Kansas Medical Center Central Utility Plant

The Central Utility Plant (CUP) project at the University of Kansas Medical Center was built to accommodate future expansions.

OWNER

University of Kansas Hospital Authority

CLIENT

United Excel

The plant provides efficient operating systems that reduce overall energy consumption and operating costs for the facility. U.S. Engineering’s project goal was to optimize the total-cost-of-ownership. To achieve that goal the project team overcame the challenges of separating the new CUP from the existing and distributing the new utility feeds throughout the campus. This process entailed more than 40 tie-ins and six different total system shut-downs, all while keeping the campus operational 24/7.
