The project consists of the design and replacement of the existing chiller, associated parts, and plumbing fixture replacement at Thomas Jefferson High School.
Many challenges existed that are not typical to new construction projects. The short duration for the bid, equipment release, and construction did not allow any mistakes for a successful project. All of the work occurred in finished buildings that required careful consideration to ensure that existing finishes were not damaged and the areas stayed clean. The crews were faced with the constant risk of hazardous materials such as asbestos insulation, asbestos floor tiles, and lead paint. Due to careful planning and precise execution, none of the crews were exposed to these materials.
As prime contractor, U.S. Engineering was responsible for coordinating design, engineering, electrical, controls, insulation, water treatment and general construction activities.
