The Paseo biodiesel plant expansion project in Kansas City, Mo., aimed to increase its production capacity by 40 percent. Through this facility, soybean oil is processed into either a biodiesel product or a pharmaceutical-grade glycerin product. The accelerated project schedule required fabrication and installation of 3 miles of carbon steel pipe, 1-1/2 miles of stainless steel pipe, and a ½ mile of 2,205 stainless steel pipe in a matter of 4 months. Since the piping installation was performed in conjunction with the building steel erection, coordination between U.S. Engineering’s field staff and fabrication shops was crucial.
