On May 19, U.S. Engineering’s Megan Galloway, PHR, delivered a talk, “Changing Culture Through Leadership Development,” at this year’s Association for Talent Development (ATD) conference in Washington D.C. The ATD International Conference & Exposition is the largest, most comprehensive event for talent development professionals worldwide. It provides talent development professionals with the knowledge, strategies, and solutions they need to effectively organize and implement development programs.

The insights Galloway shared with the room of 500 conference-goers centered on how leadership development programs can change company cultures. Specifically, she talked about ways to evaluate program success, integrate it with a business and track metrics:

“At U.S. Engineering, we are working on building programs that allow all team members to be empowered to be the best versions of themselves,” Galloway said. “This means creating opportunities for people to grow in their careers, be innovative in their roles, and be an essential part of the strategic plan for our Company’s future.”

The session focused mainly on building highly-experiential Leadership Development programs that give team members more exposure to leadership situations, strategic decision-making, and positive habit-building opportunities to make the next generation of U.S. Engineering leaders.

“We are continually working to adapt our culture to grow with our Company and its team members,” she said “This is another way we plan to keep U.S. Engineering on the forefront of best people practices to be a leading mechanical contractor for the next 125 years.”

Before the session began, Galloway spoke with four people on the front row. Each person was from a different continent (China, Sweden, Australia, and North America), so her presentation truly had an international impact on the talent development community.

Galloway is a Talent Development leader who specializes in building learning programs in the construction industry from the ground-up. She believes any organization can grow its Talent Development strategy into a high-functioning, culture-impacting, and critical business-changing program within three years. Galloway is working to challenge traditional mindsets in the construction industry to attract and retain more talent with innovative people practices.
