ENR Magazine published its 2014 list of Top 600 Specialty Contractors, and U.S. Engineering makes several appearances in the feature article, “Firms Wary During Recovery.”  Among the mentions is this highlighted quote from CEO Tyler Nottberg responding to a question about technology helping to change construction:

• The ability to make a profit is a critical factor in taking work. “As contractors get involved in complex, high-speed projects, they need to be aware of the risks they are taking on to perform profitably so that they are around for the next project,” says Tyler Nottberg, CEO, U.S. Engineering Co.
• Labor-shortages have begun to put pressure on costs. “Labor prices just keep escalating. It is supply and demand. In the skilled trades, there continues to be a diminishing pool of qualified labor relative to the volume of work that will need to be performed,” says Nottberg of U.S. Engineering Co.

In addition to the feature article, U.S. Engineering maintains its spot among the top 20 mechanical contractors and the top 100 specialty contractors in the nation. ENR ranked the companies by 2013 revenue. Several large projects in 2013 propelled the company to No. 10 and No. 50 on the mechanical and specialty lists, respectively.

“It’s never been our goal to be highly ranked or to be the biggest,” said Chief Project Development Officer Justin Apprill. “Rather, we focus on delivering solutions that benefit the end-user, like high performing buildings and lowest cost of ownership. At the end of the day, if we take care of the customer, all that other stuff takes care of itself.”
