Denver hospital project exemplifies power of prefabrication

When a project team jokingly refers to the pace of work as “psycho-track” instead of fast-track, you know you’re dealing with an accelerated schedule.

The Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital Heritage Project in Denver, CO is a great example of the power of prefabrication and how it can affect not only schedule but also cost and safety. With more than 800,000 square feet and 350 beds, the project team, which included U.S. Engineering as the mechanical contractor, leaned on prefabrication to drive the project and deliver results that would have otherwise not been possible.

Mortenson Construction, the general contractor for the project, analyzed the performance of that project and created a video explaining the impressive results as well as an infographic that can be found at the end of this post. The success of this project, and U.S. Engineering’s role in it, was a significant reason why ENR Magazine named U.S. Engineering the 2013 Colorado Specialty Contractor of the Year.
