Senior Project Manager (Loveland, CO and Kansas City, MO)

  • Position Description:

The Senior Project manager is a vital part of the U.S. Engineering team and holds responsibility for overseeing the profitability and success of the project. The Sr. PM gets engaged from the preparation and review of estimates, through the construction phase, and takes charge of all activities from the start to on-time and on-budget completion. Responsibilities include supervising all facets of the job, including coordinating a multi-disciplinary team, scheduling, estimating, change orders, generation and completion of schedule of values for billings, projections, buyout, and job closeout. The Senior Project Manager plays a key role with developing and nurturing client relationships, and will be involved in company strategic initiatives.

Qualifications required:

Minimum of 15 years experience with project management in full mechanical construction, including diversity in types of projects, such as commercial, institutional, government, advanced technology, and industrial. Prefer Bachelor's Degree in Construction Science Management, Architectural Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering - however, equivalent combination of field leadership experience supervising the mechanical trades may be substituted. Must have thorough knowledge of mechanical construction industry practices/processes, leadership skills to maximize the performance of project team, and superior communication and interpersonal skills.  Willingness to travel or manage projects in remote locations as needed highly preferred.

Piping Detailer (Spring Hill, TN)
Position Description:
U.S. Engineering Company is looking for a full time piping detailer.

Qualifications required:
Needs to be proficient in AutoCAD 2000-2002, CadPipe 3-D piping program. Architectural Desktop would be a plus as well as Navisworks. Must have a good knowledge of plumbing systems and plumbing code and HVAC piping systems. ( Chilled Water, Condenser Water, Heating Water, Steam etc.)

Chief Estimator (Loveland, CO)

Position Description:

Plans, coordinates, and supervises the division's estimating programs and activities, providing technical and administrative direction to ensure corporate and division objectives are met.   Responsible for leading the estimating activities for assigned regional projects, including bid preparation, estimating protocol, final bid tabulation, client relationship management, and leading and developing Estimators.  Position requires management of bid day activities, risk assessment and sub/supplier relationship management.  Specific duties include:

  • Manage and administer Estimating department operating budget, in collaboration with Vice President of Procurement.
  • Manage and administer human resources within the department, to include staffing, wage reviews, work assignments, performance evaluations, team and individual development, etc.  
  • Assist Vice President of Procurement and other leaders within the division to determine what types of project to bid, strategies, techniques, etc.
  • Responsible for the overall development of efficient processes and protocol for the Estimating department, including plumbing, piping, and sheet metal disciplines.
  • Review final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness, prior to formal quotation.
  • Participate in presentations to management and clients.
  • Provide technical assistance in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc. as required. 
  • Lead bid preparation and final closeout for hard bids.
  • Perform all aspects of take-off for piping and plumbing estimating.
  • Assist Preconstruction Services with conceptual estimates.
  • Responsible for leadership development and mentoring of employees within department.  
  • Serve as primary contact to outside vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors during bid preparation.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with client counterparts and competitor counterparts.
  • Provide Estimators with the technology “tools” for accurate and efficient take-offs / estimates, as well as make appropriate updates in the system.
  • Provide Estimators with training to elevate their proficiency with current and future tools and methods of estimating.
  • Read all specifications and review drawing on estimates.
  • Facilitate pre-bid meetings with Estimator Team and management as appropriate.
  • Manage acquisition and return of bidding documents.
  • Responsible for developing and effectively fostering client relationships, including attending client events.
  • Partner with regional, project and estimating management on constructability review, workforce requirements, schedule, and other trade impacts.
  • Participate in the company’s strategic initiatives as necessary

Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree, or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or experience in mechanical estimating.
    • Extensive (minimum of 10 years) experience in full mechanical estimating, to include HVAC, piping, plumbing, etc.
    • Must have experience managing the estimating of jobs in excess of  $20 million in mechanical value.
    • Experience working with QuickPen Autobid Mechanical or similar software.
    • Must possess broad industry experience with HVAC – including commercial and institutional, as well as industrial.
      • Ability to be self sufficient and work under minimal supervision.  Must be capable of facilitating a bid process through its completion.
      • Ability to facilitate successful team results.
      • Proficiency with computers and estimating software.
      • Ability to use discretion and make judgments on relative significance of bid components.  Good understanding of terms and conditions that impact bid strategy.
      • Operate with keen sense of urgency and work with proficiency.
      • Strong communication and persuasion skills.
      • Strong analytical skills, combined with resourcefulness to find all routes to the most effective results.
      • Strong customer service skills including ability to solve problems while maintaining relationships.
      • Strong ability to develop and foster effective professional relationships in order to gain credibility and aid the division, and company’s business development efforts
      • Adaptable and flexible to changing environment – embraces change when necessary and manages it effectively

 Senior Mechanical Estimator (Spring Hill, Tennessee)

Position Description:

Responsible for leading the estimating activities for assigned regional projects, including bid preparation, estimating protocol, final bid tabulation, client relationship management, and leading and developing Estimators.  Position requires management of bid day activities, risk assessment and sub/supplier relationship management.  

Specific duties include:  

  • Lead bid preparation and final closeout for hard bids.
  • Provide bid strategy to win projects.
  • Collaborate with Operations on proposals and process improvement.
  • Manage estimating protocol for Plumbing, Piping, and Sheetmetal
  • Perform all aspects of take-off for piping and plumbing estimating.
  • Assist Preconstruction Services with conceptual estimates.
  • Lead, train, and mentor other Estimators – may serve as direct supervisor for Estimators earlier in their careers.
  • Serve as primary contact to outside vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors during bid preparation.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with client counterparts and competitor counterparts.
  • Attend weekly Project Managers Meeting and weekly Estimating Meeting.
  • Provide Estimators with the technology “tools” for accurate and efficient take-offs / estimates, as well as make appropriate updates in the system.
  • Provide Estimators with training to elevate their proficiency with current and future tools and methods of estimating.
  • Read all specifications and review drawing on estimates.
  • Develop a bid “checklist” for each bid
  • Responsible for layout “fill in blanks” on incomplete drawings.
  • Facilitate pre-bid meetings with Estimator Team and management as appropriate.
  • Manage acquisition and return of bidding documents.
  • Client relationship management as needed, including attending client events.
  • Partner with regional, project and estimating management on constructability review, workforce requirements, schedule, and other trade impacts.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Minimum of 10 years experience performing full mechanical estimating - piping, plumbing, HVAC.
  • Prefer experience with large-scale jobs, in excess of $10 million in mechanical value.
  • Experience working with QuickPen AutoBid Mechanical or QuoteExpress or similar software.
  • Prefer broad industry experience with HVAC – including commercial and institutional, as well as industrial.
  •  Ability to be self sufficient and work under minimal supervision.  Must be capable of facilitating a bid process through its completion.
  • Ability to facilitate successful team results.
  • Proficiency with computers and estimating software.
  • Ability to use discretion and make judgments on relative significance of bid components.  Good understanding of terms and conditions that impact bid strategy.
